A few Consructs.

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately I havent had a massive amount of time to work on STASIS this past week-but did take a moment to create some new CONSTRUCTS for the levels. These are essentially genertic building blocks, which I use to ‘flesh out’ the game levels. Most of these CONSTRUCTS are really generic components. Pipes, wall pieces, furniture, computer consols. So while each screen still has a massive amount of custom modeling (each room has completely unique ‘stuff’ in it), having a library of these items really helps.

I use a library asset management system inside MAX, which has each CONSTRUCT labled under its room type. Medical, Corridor, Hero, Dead Bodies, Military, etc. These ones here are just a few randoms to show you. 🙂

I do have a blog post planned where Ill go a little more indepth into how I create these, and how I put everything into the engine.

So cool. I wish that someday you would post a time-lapse of your process of designing a level or creating the elements of a scene. I think we’re all curious/in awe as to how you make scenes that are so impressive, especially in such a short amount of time.

Thats not a bad idea. 😀 Im moving onto a new area this week…Ill do some time-lapse screen grabs and stuff. 😀

Looks great, but I want to see more!!… I second what David said, look forward to seeing it!…. can you tell me how much time you spend on this?.. do you work as well?.. just sometimes I wonder how 3D Artists have the time, or do they just rely on 2 hours sleep a night!

I third it! These look great and it seems like you just throw them together in an hour or so…

    As requested. 😉

Martin, I work on STASIS at least once a weekend, and sometimes for an hour or two a night during the week. I own a company called BURN (www.burn.co.za), so my day is pretty full! But when I can, I fire up my home PC and throw some stuff together. 🙂

The constructs vary in time to complete, but generally I can do about 2 – 3 an hour for the medium detailed ones. THe small ones are really quick (walls, floor grates, chairs, etc), with some of the big ones (the train for example) taking a few hours to get right.

The idea with them though, is that the more I have, the faster I can create them. So when I have a few cool computers and computer monitors, I can build up a computer bank easily. When that bank is done, it gets saved as a separate CONSTRUCT, so the next time I need a computer bank, I have a good starting point.

Yep your day does sound full!.. though I get the feeling STASIS is more a passion of yours than work….if I was living in South Africa I might spend every spare minute on Safari!.. just as well I’m in Germany, no excuses in improving my portfolio!
